Chilton Town Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Joanne Dickinson as our Town clerk, following the retirement in July of John Robinson.

Joanne joins us from Pelton Parish Council, where she held the position of Clerk and Responsible Finance Officer; one of a small number of Councils to gain the Local Council Quality Gold Award for excellence in governance, community leadership and council development.    She brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to public service in this important role for both Chilton and the Town Council. As Town Clerk, Joanne will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient functioning of local services within the town and as a key point of contact for the community and other stakeholders.

Joanne stated, ‘I am excited to take up the role at Chilton Town and look forward to working alongside councillors, staff, volunteers and residents to deliver a range of services and projects that will benefit the Chilton community”.

The external recruitment process was managed in conjunction with Durham County Council Human Resources department to ensure a robust and independent process.

The role commences on the 1st November 2024, aligned to other changes within the Council to improve front facing services and public access to information, advice and support.

Councillor Sue Reece Chair of the HR Committee said, “we are extremely pleased to welcome Joanne as our new Town Clerk and look forward to working with her to deliver a highly effective, progressive and forward-thinking Town Council”.
