Chilton Town Council - Cemetery Information

Chilton Cemetery

Memorials and Headstones

Guidelines for Memorials: At Chilton Cemetery, we understand the importance of creating a meaningful and lasting tribute to loved ones. While the Town Council is not a manufacturer or supplier of headstones and memorials, we have established guidelines to ensure consistency, safety, and respect within the cemetery grounds.

Regulations and Requirements: To maintain the peaceful and respectful environment of the cemetery, all headstones and memorials must comply with the approved regulations. This includes specific guidelines regarding:

  • Size and dimensions of headstones.

  • Materials used for construction.

  • Placement and installation.

  • Permitted inscriptions and decorations.

These rules are in place to preserve the dignity of the cemetery and ensure the safety of visitors and maintenance teams.

Important Information for Families and Memorial Suppliers: Families wishing to install a memorial or headstone should consult with their chosen supplier to ensure compliance with the cemetery’s regulations. It is the responsibility of both the family and the supplier to adhere to these guidelines.  Please Note: you must be the registered owner to approve a headstone or memorial on a grave.  Details of ownership and transfer can be find in the section ‘Purchasing a Grave’.

We’re here to help guide you through this process with care and respect.

Headstones and Memorials

Local authorities are responsible for the regular inspection of headstones in cemeteries. These inspections are typically carried out every 5 years.  The next planned full inspection will take place in 2028.  Please see our Headstone Inspection Procedures below:
