Purchasing a Cemetery Plot

Peace of Mind
  • Purchasing a cemetery plot in advance ensures that your final resting place is secured, relieving your loved ones from making difficult decisions during a time of grief.
Financial Planning
  • Buying a plot now can save money in the long run, as cemetery plot prices tend to increase over time. Pre-purchasing allows you to lock in current rates.
Personal Preferences
  • Securing a plot allows you to choose a location that holds personal significance, whether it’s near family members, in a particular cemetery, or in a specific section of a cemetery.

Legal Aspects

Deed and Ownership
  • When you purchase a cemetery plot, you receive a deed that grants you the right to use the plot. It’s important to keep this document safe, as it proves your ownership.
Transfer of Ownership
  • If you decide to transfer your plot, you must follow the cemetery’s rules and local regulations. This often involves notifying the cemetery and completing necessary paperwork.  Chilton Town Council charges a fee for this service.
Burial Rights
  • Understand the specific burial rights associated with your plot, such as the number of burials allowed  and any restrictions on monument types or sizes.  In our cemetery we only allow single depth burials, however, this can also accommodate 2 burials of cremated remains with the full burial.
For full details of ownership and transfer of ownership, please see our Transfer and Ownership Regulations.  Or contact the office on 01388 721788.
